POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Inpatient Services is responsible for planning, organizing and directing the operations of designated Nursing Service departments. Ensures compliance with patient care quality standards as it relates to the care provided to all age groups of patients. Ensures competency of all nursing personnel. Shares responsibility for delivery of safe and effective care provided to patients as well as the financial and operational performance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
+ Promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization
+ Provides ongoing effective leadership to insure that the departments reporting to Director of Inpatient Services continue to adapt, evolve, and grow to accommodate changes in the healthcare environment
+ Knows and practices the prescribed philosophy, purpose, policies, and standards of Inpatient Services
+ Organizes, directs, and administers Inpatient Services in designated departments in order to provide the level of care required by current medical and nursing standards
+ Plans the budget for personnel, supplies, and equipment in coordination with Nurse Managers
+ Responsible for cost controls to ensure maximum effectiveness of funds expended from the approved departmental budgets
+ Supports and develops Nursing Managers in the coordination of the employee selection process, work assignments, performance evaluations, and staff development
+ Maintains continuing quality assessment and improvement analysis and evaluation of patient care delivery and communicates with the Chief Nursing & Quality Officer on the activities/issues of his/her departments
+ Plans and recommends new equipment or modification thereto, required to provide patient care
+ Encourages and facilitates the professional advancement of employees by affording opportunities for further education and experience
+ Ensures that cordial relationships are maintained with patients, their families and friends, clergy, and other interested groups in the community
+ Develop, maintain and periodically update policies and procedures for all clinical areas of responsibility
Skills: Excellent communication, listening, leadership and management skills are essential, Must be very well organized to effectively manage multiple tasks, Ability to effectively work closely with staff and peers required
Education: Bachelor?s degree in Nursing required, Master?s degree in Nursing or Business Administration preferred, Education and practice of management principles and techniques required
Experience: At least five (5) years of nursing experience and two (2) or more years in a supervisory and/or administrative position, Broad knowledge of nursing theory and practice and administrative theory and practice, Documented evidence of successful management experience
License: Current State of Idaho RN license, Current BLS (AHA) certification
Supervises: General Supervision of nursing personnel; specific supervision of hospital supervisors, DNS personnel and designated Nurse Managers
Supervised by: Chief Quality & Nursing Officer
