Status: Hours and shifts will vary with the needs of the Sandpoint High School Athletic Department for the 2018-2019 school year.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The athletic trainers diagnose and treat injuries to bone and muscle under the direction of licensed doctors or other health-care professionals. They work with anyone who engages in athletic injury. They prevent injury through the use of devices such as tape and braces, recognize and evaluate injuries, and provide emergency care. They rehabilitate hurt athletes and plan programs to prevent injury and illness. They also perform administrative tasks such as meeting with administrative officials and keeping records.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
+ Evaluate athletes' readiness to play and provide participation clearances when necessary and warranted
+ Care for athletic injuries, using therapy equipment, techniques, or medication
+ Conduct an initial assessment of an athlete's injury or illness to provide emergency or continued care and to determine whether they should be referred to physicians for definitive diagnosis and treatment
+ Assess and report the progress of recovering athletes to coaches or physicians
+ Perform general administrative tasks, such as keeping records or writing reports
+ Apply protective or injury preventive devices, such as tape, bandages, or braces, to body parts, such as ankles, fingers, or wrists
+ Plan or implement comprehensive athletic injury or illness prevention programs
+ Collaborate with physicians and physical therapists to develop and implement comprehensive rehabilitation programs for athletic injuries
+ Develop exercise or conditioning programs
+ Collaborate with healthcare professionals to plan or provide treatment
+ Advise athletes on the proper use of equipment
+ Advise athletes, coaches, or trainers on exercise regimens, nutrition, or equipment use
+ Travel with athletic teams to be available at sporting events
+ Instruct coaches, athletes, parents, medical personnel, or community members in the care and prevention of athletic injuries
+ Advise athletes, coaches, or trainers on exercise regimens, nutrition, or equipment use
+ Inspect playing fields to locate any items that could injure players
+ Develop training programs or routines designed to improve athletic performance
+ Develop exercise or conditioning programs
+ Recommend special diets to improve athletes' health, increase their stamina, or alter their weight
+ Advise athletes, coaches, or trainers on exercise regimens, nutrition, or equipment use
+ Confer with coaches to select protective equipment
+ Massage body parts to relieve soreness, strains, or bruises
+ Lead stretching exercises for team members prior to games or practices
+ Perform team support duties such as running errands, maintaining equipment, or stocking supplies
+ Ages of patients served and age specific technology: Pediatric /Early childhood/ Adolescent/ Adult/Geriatric
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Skills:
+ Ability to read, write legibly and comprehend the written and spoken word in English
+ Basic computer literacy and ability to effectively learn new software programs required
Education:
+ Bachelor?s Degree in Athletic Training or related field
Experience:
+ Minimum new graduate
Licensure and certifications:
+ BOC certification as an Athletic Trainer
+ Current BLS (AHA) certification
+ Valid driver?s license
Requirements of Employment:
+ Personal vehicle for on-the-job transportation
+ Must be able to successfully pass a driver?s license record background check and provide proof of liability insurance on personal vehicle
+ Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a fingerprint-based criminal history background check through the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare
